Lydia, the founder of Daisy + Dahlia, approached me with an exciting request to design a logo and develop a cohesive visual identity for her newly launched made-to-order cookie and pastry business. Based in London and Athens, Daisy + Dahlia is a local bakery that prides itself on creating artisanal treats crafted with care and precision. Lydia envisioned a custom logo design that would authentically represent her brand’s values of quality, creativity, and a personal, handmade touch.

The Logomark

After discussing Lydia's vision and the essence of her business, we decided that a hand-drawn approach would be the best way to communicate the warm, inviting, and down-to-earth nature of Daisy + Dahlia. To achieve this, we opted for a hand-drawn logomark complemented by an integrated hand-lettered logotype. This design choice not only reflects the artisanal and local character of the bakery but also helps the brand stand out as unique and approachable in a competitive market.

 

The result is a logo that beautifully encapsulates the heart of Daisy + Dahlia, celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and the joy of indulging in delicious, thoughtfully made baked goods.

Hand-drawn Approach

The logo features a hand-drawn, organic aesthetic that perfectly reflects the artisanal and local bakery concept. The design centers around a circular shape resembling a cookie or pastry with a bite taken out of it, emphasizing the bakery’s focus on delicious handmade goods. The hand-lettered text is whimsically styled, with rounded, bubbly lettering that feels approachable and warm, evoking a sense of creativity and care.

Small speckled details around the text and edges add texture, resembling cookie toppings, enhancing the connection to baked goods and handcrafted quality. Overall, the logo communicates the bakery’s emphasis on artisanal production, local charm, and a welcoming, homemade vibe.

Colour Palette

The colour palette for Daisy + Dahlia is inspired by natural ingredients commonly found in baking, creating a warm and inviting visual identity. The two Primary Colours are Almond and Pistachio. First, a soft, creamy beige reminiscent of almond flour or lightly baked dough, this neutral tone provides a wholesome and versatile base for the palette. Contrasted by an earthy green that evokes the freshness of pistachio nuts. This tone highlights a connection to natural and organic ingredients. The two Primary Colours are complimented by a warm, peachy pink that calls to mind the delicate sweetness of a sugary Glaze or frosting, and a deep, rich black with warm undertones, inspired by the boldness of Liquorice, which adds contrast and sophistication, balancing the lighter shades. Lastly, a dark, rich brown that mirrors the decadence of melted Chocolate, adding depth and reinforcing the indulgent and artisanal nature of the brand.

This palette beautifully represents the ingredients and flavours associated with baking, creating a harmonious and appetising visual identity.​

Typography & Overall Aesthetic

The typography chosen for Daisy + Dahlia uses three distinct typefaces to cover various aspects of the brand’s messaging. New Kansas Black for Headers, is a bold, curvy typeface with a playful, handcrafted feel. It’s perfect for conveying the bakery’s artisanal and welcoming nature. Complimented by Acumin Wide SemiBold Italic used in Subheadings, a clean and modern italic typeface that adds a sense of elegance and professionalism, balancing the playful elements of the brand. Lastly, Open Sans Regular is used for Body Copy. This versatile, easy-to-read sans-serif font for extended text ensures clarity and functionality in written content, such as menus, website or promotional materials.

 

The combination of earthy tones and thoughtfully selected typography creates a cohesive identity that emphasizes the bakery’s artisanal quality, warmth, and local charm while maintaining a polished and modern feel.

Brand Pattern

The brand pattern features evenly scattered, hand-drawn pistachio nuts that add an organic and artisanal touch to the design. Each pistachio is detailed with subtle textures and imperfections, capturing the natural beauty of the ingredient while emphasizing the bakery’s handcrafted approach.

 

The pattern’s arrangement is balanced yet dynamic, with pistachios placed at varying angles to create visual interest and a natural flow. This versatile design works seamlessly for packaging, promotional materials, and web backgrounds, offering a cohesive and distinctive visual element that reinforces the brand’s connection to high-quality, natural ingredients.
